Why the diaper companies are laughing all the way to the bank…

Last night I attended a local twin meeting (Fraser Valley Multiples) and was lucky enough to participate in a grocery savings workshop held by the Abbotsford Coupon Lady. While I won’t go into detail about all the savings ideas that she shared with us (up to 75% of your bill – you can check out her site at www.abbotsfordcouponlady.com) what I wanted to tell you is why I think the diaper companies are laughing at us all the way to the bank.

My brand of choice is Pampers. I have twins so I buy in multiples. I do my best to buy diapers on sale. Buying diapers on sale is THE ONLY WAY TO GO!!!! The regular price of a big box of diapers is $40. The sale price is $20. Add in a couple of coupons (I have a stack of $3 off coupons and now the diapers I buy are $17 per box.  This is a savings of $23 PER BOX! If I buy these diapers at regular price ($40) I am fairly certain the diaper companies must be laughing at me all the way to the bank!

What REALLY gets me, is how they can rip me off sit back and charge $40 per box on a regular basis, but every 5 or 6 weeks be willing to drop their price by more than 50%???

So this got me thinking what other baby / children’s products am I paying too much for????? What money saving techniques do you use in your family? Please share your ideas in the comment section below.

Amazon Mom + Subscribe and Save program — diapers delivered to your door, free shipping, and meets my price point.

And then, there’s always cloth diapers to save money! :)

or, like in my house, the boys just run around naked.

  2. I get anything I can from Costco. Target’s store brand hasn’t let us down either. For clothes, I like plain onesies in 5-packs and we buy $1 ribbon and bells (or whatever) at the craft store to make them fancy. Hot glue, man.

I really need to start buying my diapers in bulk.

I love your blog! I agree on the diapers, everyone says how expensive it must be to diaper twins, but I buy them in bulk when they are on sale for $17/box. When the boys were born I received a list of companies that provide freebies and coupons to parents of multiples – I received hundreds of dollars in coupons (that are now long gone). I make 95% of their food and find it is so much cheaper and nutritious that way. Craigslist is essential for those ridiculously expensive “must-have” items, like a bumbo. I am also registered at PG BrandSaver and get a ton of coupons and freebies for other household essentials, in addition to scouring the weekly flyers for the lowest priced Emfamil of the week.

I use coupons just like you do. I used to make my own baby food. We consign and go to consignment sales.

Baby food in the jars. Makes no sense to me…banana’s in a jar? I can buy a bunch of bananas, mash them up at home (takes seconds) and voila…pennies a serving. The fact they are a rip-off AND taste terrible makes me wonder why the baby food companies are still around!

Diapers are sooo expensive it’s redic! I cloth diaper Mason {and I’ve won most of them} so that helps me save some money, I also make sure I use coupons!

Another thing I do to save money is I shop at consignment/thrift stores for Mason! He grows out of all his stuff so quickly there’s no way I’d be able to afford buying all new clothes! The best part is I often find BRAND NEW clothes at the consignment and thrift stores!
